Indiana University (IU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, School of Nursing for the four core nursing campuses (Bloomington, Columbus, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis).

Since its founding in 1914, Indiana University School of Nursing (School) has evolved into one of the largest nursing programs in Indiana that offers a full range of academic degrees from BSN to doctorate. The School has undergone various stages of growth and development, extending from a focus on undergraduate education to include graduate nursing education throughout the state. Advancing research and scientific discovery is a core mission for the School. In FY 2023-2024, the School had $4.2 million in external funding and was ranked 14th in NIH funding among public schools of nursing. Total enrollment for the School in Fall 2024 was 1,803 undergraduate students (BSN + ASN, RN to BSN) and 279 graduate students (MSN, DNP and PhD), with an additional 1,200 students on the pre-nursing tracks. There are129 full-time faculty members and more than 24,031 alumni worldwide.

Reporting to the Provost on the Indianapolis campus, the new Dean will build on the current success of the School and its faculty and take it to the next level of its development as a national leader in teaching, practice, research, and service. The new Dean, working with the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners throughout IU, will provide intellectual leadership and strategic direction for the future of nursing education, so that the School will maintain a prominent role regionally, nationally, and internationally in addressing the critical needs of the profession.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of national and international leadership in research and education with a commitment to academic excellence. Candidates must hold a PhD or similar research-intensive degree from an accredited institution; candidates with a terminal research degree in a field other than nursing must have a graduate degree in nursing. All candidates must have a record of distinguished research with proven success in securing external funding for their program of research, excellence in teaching, and a substantive and progressive record of administrative expertise in an academic setting. Candidates must have credentials that merit appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure in nursing.
