Duties
Provide safe, prompt, and skillful nursing care for patients requiring treatments with chronic and non-urgent medical conditions. Treatments include biologic IV/SC therapy, hydration, therapeutic phlebotomy, port-a-cath maintenance, lab draws, blood transfusions, electrolyte replacement and other subcutaneous injections. The purpose of the Infusion Suite is to provide timely and efficient treatment for ordered procedures or infusions by the Veteran's provider on an outpatient bases. The RN must be proficient in initiating IV access, ensuring timely care, and expediting services for multiple patients throughout shift. Must be proficient in triaging phone calls from patients, providers, and other staff. The nurse provides pre-procedure education, which includes directions on preparation for visit, expectations for treatment, length of therapy, frequency of treatment, and any applicable post-discharge instructions. The nurse is also responsible for scheduling follow-up treatments for continued care. The RN must demonstrate autonomy in coordinating patient care, ensuring patients meet applicable criteria prior to treatments, and advocating for patients that may require regimen changes. The RN must be self-directed in applying nursing standards of practice to patient care, following facility protocols, and initiating follow-up with providers as needed. The RN will work flexible shifts that may include a compressed work schedule.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity (including depth perception), keen hearing (aide permitted), clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity in both hands. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking (2-4 hours), standing (2-6 hours), stooping, sitting, bending, pulling (1-2 hours), and pushing (1-2 hours,) lifting ( > 50 pounds), carrying ( > 50 pounds). Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical lifts are provided. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. Must be able to work closely with others, as well as protracted or irregular hours of work. Must be compliance with the use of ergonomic exercises and employee safety requirements.

- Phone calls in/out to schedule, change appointments per patient request, or explain infusions/procedures/etc.
- Send out two weekly emails to Inpatient pharmacy and Outpatient pharmacy so procurement can make sure we have the needed medications for the following week
- Schedule patients for their next appointments and inform the MSA of those appointments to put in VISTA Input appointments into Excel calendar
- Chart checks done daily for next day appointments
- Print labels for patients
- Updating excel calendar as year progresses
- Managing the opening and closing down of unit
- Cleaning all supplies, chairs, and equipment after each patient encounter
- Updating Omnicell supplies as our patient needs change
- Updating infusion list with new medications for RN reference (new medications all the time)
- Work orders for damaged or equipment in need of repair
- Manage unit from top to bottom and work hard to maintain patient satisfaction.
