- Acts as patient advocate. Assists patients in utilizing services appropriately and effectively. Facilitates delivery of quality health care.
- Facilitates communication between physicians/staff/patients.
- Receives, handles, and investigates complaints and their causes. Performs follow-up as necessary. Seeks solutions. Consults with other health team members as appropriate. Assumes responsibility for resolution of more difficult service problems involving multiple departments. Responds in writing as appropriate.
- Renders professional nursing care. Assists and directs nursing staff in providing care in accordance with physicians instructions. Utilizes other resources as necessary.
- Acts as resource person for ancillary service departments in relation to service issues. Acts as liaison between ancillary departments and physicians in relation to medical care issues.
- Implements and adheres to Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program Patient Bill of Rights and Mission Statement.
- Develops and implements plans/projects to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness. Monitors and reports status and progress to supervisor. Participates in QA meetings.
- Assumes responsibility for administrative duties in absence of manager or as situation dictates.
- Provides feedback to nursing supervisor regarding program, department or staffing issues. Assists with problem resolution.
- Administers personnel policies and appropriate collective bargaining.
- Attends, participates, and leads supervisory and management meetings as appropriate regarding matters pertaining to department operations for improved patient care/services, cost control, training and other needs.
- Directs, orients, and trains clinic nursing and clerical staff. Promotes quality of service standards. Plans, develops, coordinates, conducts, and monitors employee education and training programs focusing on department policies, procedures, and general clinic operations. Assumes responsibility in emergency situations, scheduling changes or adverse department conditions. Demonstrates flexibility.
- Orients employees to operational systems. Emphasizes quality of service standards, department systems, medical records systems, inter-organizational relationships between health plan, HPMG, and hospitals, clinic policies, and procedures.
- Coordinates mandatory in-service programs (e.g., CPR, fire/safety, hearing impaired, hazardous materials, universal precautions/infection control, electrical safety).
- Researches, develops, and evaluates nursing policies and procedures in collaboration with other departments/individuals. Evaluates training programs to institute necessary changes. Ensures up-to-date patient care methods and practices.
- Maintains current knowledge of trends in nursing practice and education. Maintains open lines of communication with supervisors, staff, and others in order disseminate information as appropriate.
- May perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise, competency and licensing necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and to direct the provision of care on the unit.
- Provides direct patient care on an as needed basis. Provides services that are within scope of license and in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements relevant to clinical role performed.

- Hires, trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate.
