Job Summary and Qualifications

The Wound Nurse participates in the care and education of the patients within the Outpatient setting. They also have the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with the patients while helping them achieve their fullest protentional for wound healing. The goal of the Wound Nurse is to contribute to the improvement of patient outcomes related to their acute and chronic wounds by using a various array of modalities that the Outpatient Wound Healing Clinic can offer.

· Assessing, treating, and monitoring patients with wounds and injuries

· Evaluating wounds and other injuries for infections and other complications

· Cleaning and bandaging wounds

· Performing specialized procedures (e.g., negative pressure wound vacs, compression wraps, dressing applications and casting) experience preferred, but will train.

· Working collaboratively with other members of the patient care team to determine if additional treatments or changes in care are required

· Educating patients and caretakers on wound care, infection and injury prevention, and pressure ulcer (bed sore) care

· Creating, updating, and managing care plans

· Coordinating treatment and referrals

· Tracking patient progress and outcomes

· Participating in or leading multidisciplinary prevention programs, rounds, and committees

· Graduate of a professional school of nursing; BSN preferred

· Current licensure by Tennessee board of nursing or other compact board of nursing

· Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

· Current BLS provider certification
